We are looking for 10 Margate based emerging performance poets to participate in 5 workshops for our Poet in the City @ Apples and Snakes strand of work. The programme will be led by Kareem Parkins-Brown and will focus on building confidence as a writer and performer and exploring how to  create a sustainable career as a poet.

We will also be joined by a couple of invited guests to guide and encourage you through the programme and provide a tool bag of skills that you will be able to draw on to bring your poetry alive on stage.

Key Times and Dates

The workshops will run between 6-8pm, and you need to be able to attend all of the dates and the workshops will be in person in Margate on the following dates

The deadline for applications is 5pm Friday 28th February 2026. We will be in touch if you are successful by 6pm Monday 2nd March 2026.

About Kareem

Kareem Parkins-Brown is a writer and visual artist who is obsessed with humour, surrealism, grief & Londonisms. He performs at museums, art galleries, libraries, cafes, bookshops, pubs, backgardens, conference centres, people’s dreams, nightmares all over. His first pamphlet, Oi You Lot, came out in 2024 with Little Betty. It was Radio 4’s Poetry Book of the Month.
