Everything you need to know about WORDCUP2026:
Tell me more about WORDCUP…
WORDCUP2026 is a national performance poetry project in 7 cities/locations across England.
You’ll take part in writing and performance workshops led by experienced poets.
After the workshop programme, each location will create a team of 8 young people to represent them at the national showcase at the final weekend in London in July 2026.
Here’s a video of WORDCUP2023: to give you an idea of what it’s all about:
- Is it for me?
If you’re aged 13 – 16, curious about poetry, spoken word, or performing, then it’s for you!
You might already love poetry, write bars/lyrics or you may have never written a poem before – it doesn’t matter… this is your chance to be heard, meet new people, and take part in something extraordinary.
- When’s it happening?
From April to June 2026, you’ll take part in a series of creative workshops led by professional poets, developing your writing, confidence and performance skills alongside other young people in your city. Together, you’ll create team poems that reflect your ideas, experiences and voices.
The journey ends with an unforgettable festival weekend in London (10th -12th July), where all teams come together to perform their work on a world-class stage at the Southbank Centre.
- Where would I stay for the final weekend?
All the teams will be staying in a Youth Hostel near to the Southbank Centre for 2 nights.
We have chosen a Youth Hostel as they are used to running residentials, so are secure and have all safety measures in place…plus they do a great breakfast!!
- Does it cost anything?
No, it’s all free, including travel, accommodation & food at the final weekend in London
If you think this might be for you, or want to know more, either contact your local organisation (details on the poster) or email [email protected], and we’ll make sure your message reaches the right person.
